Wednesday Weekly Helen's Closet
Posted by Helen | 08/06/2016 | Wednesday Weekly

Hello, makers!  Is anyone else looking at their list of things to make for summer and counting the actual weeks in summer and seeing that the two do not play nice?  I have so many fun, summer prints and cute patterns to make, but not enough summer to make them in!  I am also trying to make things for more than one season, but it is hard sometimes with all the summer patterns coming out.  So many great ones this week!  Check 'em out 🙂 Clockwise from top left:  the Vienna Tank, the Weston Shorts & Addison Shirt, the Tea-House dress,...

Sewaholic Saltspring Bees Camisole Hack by Helen's Closet
Posted by Helen | 06/06/2016 | Into My Closet

I have been eyeing the Saltspring dress for some time now, so when Caroline shared a camisole hack it was just the push I needed to invest in this pattern.  I love the delicate spaghetti straps and combined with the ruffle panel so much, I just had to take the plunge.  I’m sure I will make the actual dress version of this pattern eventually, but for now, BEES! This hack is very simple, and it is so comfortable to wear.  I made my version out of a pretty cheap poly crepe dé chine from Dressew (also available online here), so...

Winslow Culottes View A by Helen's Closet
Posted by Helen | 02/06/2016 | Into My Closet

One of my favorite things about summer is, of course, being outside!  I love biking & walking as well as baseball, frisbee, or just picnicking in the park.  Cute summer dresses are great, but not always the most practical attire for such activities.  I need an outfit that I can run around in, you know?  I designed my upcoming pattern, the Winslow Culottes, to fill this role in my wardrobe and I could not be more pleased.  I love wearing these on my sunny adventures!  They can be made at any length, but today I want to show you the...

Posted by Helen | 01/06/2016 | Wednesday Weekly

Welcome to June, makers!  It is crazy how quickly me-made-may flew by.  I had visions of wearing everything I made in the past year, but of course that didn't happen.  Not just because wearing a wool coat in this heat is insane, but I really found I was reaching for my favourites and thinking about what makes them work for me.  I know you all were doing the same, and I look forward to reading your me-made-may epiphanies! News Fancy Tiger Crafts released their first knit pattern, the wanderlust tee!    The Monthly Stitch has put together a pretty killer pattern...

Lark Tee and Inari Tee mashup by Helen's Closet
Posted by Helen | 30/05/2016 | Into My Closet

What is a Larnari, you ask?  Well, when a pattern and another pattern love each other very much...you get the idea.  In this case, the Lark Tee and the Inari Tee Dress are a match made in heaven.  I tried the Inari recently, and I loved the cocoon shape, but not the fit of the arms.  I wanted to make a knit version but didn’t want the awkward arm fit issues, so I decided it was time for some matchmaking! The Lark tee from Grainline Studio is my go-to t-shirt pattern.  I love the fit, length, and the fact that it offers...

I know Me Made May isn't quite over yet, and I will be sure to share my last two outfits next weekend along with what I learned from the experience!  It certainly has been an eye-opener. I love the practice of choosing a me-made item in the morning and finding new ways to style it, and I love to see how you style your makes too.  Let's not stop at #mmmay, lets keep going!  I plan to try and share my handmade outfits using the hashtag #memadeday and you can too!  Here is what I wore this week. #mmmay16 day 22! Another preview of...
