For the past few months I have been developing a PDF book bag pattern to share with you guys! Scheduled for release on November 23rd, it will be just in time for the Holiday gift-giving season.  I've decided to name this pattern the Granger, after one of my favourite characters in Harry Potter, Hermione.  This bag isn't just for smart and sassy ladies though, it is perfect for anyone awesome who has places to go and things to carry! The Granger Book Bag pattern features two views, one with a messenger bag-style flap and one without.  It has a fabric blocking...

From the moment I saw this dress I knew it was going to be a perfect fit for me.  I absolutely adore shirtdresses and this one is so beautifully designed with its gathered sides and back.  It is the Alder dress from Grainline Studios, my first make from Jen’s collection and I am completely smitten.  The pattern was high quality, with easy to follow instructions and nice graphic design (something I always appreciate).  Side note, this is my 10th make on the blog!  The last 2 months have been incredibly fun, motivating and fulfilling, thanks for following along on my...

Dixie DIY Bonnel Dress by Helen's Closet
Posted by Helen | 04/09/2015 | Into My Closet

Not every project can be a resounding success, and it is important to embrace the shortcomings in every endeavour as learning experiences.  I really struggled with this dress and it...

Happy September Everybody!  I don't know about you guys, but since it feels as though the summer came to a screeching halt here in Vancouver when the rainstorm started over the weekend. It was the biggest storm to hit Vancouver in the last decade, knocking out the lights for 400,000 people!  We were thankfully spared, but it did make me think about battery backups for sewing machines, although I guess it is a good opportunity to do some hand stitching by candlelight. News The second indie pattern bundle was released yesterday for Sewing Indie Month.  It is such a steal at $25 - $38,...
