Hello makers! I'm in the midst of a crazy few weeks work-wise and I am definitely feeling the pressure.  It is hard to balance work, life, and blog (yep, it gets its own category), but I am pushing through.  Do you ever feel like you don't have time for everything?  Silly question, who doesn't.  One thing I can count on is my Bloglovin' and Instagram feeds being full of amazing makes from you guys, so thank you for that!  It makes for a wonderful break during the day 🙂 News Tessuti released the Jane dress, a simple and elegant dress with a cool...

Culottes by Helen's Closet

It seams fitting to end my me-made Mexico series with these crazy culottes, we had such a blast and I am really missing all the bright colours, warm weather and family time.  One thing I am happy to be without is the crazy afternoon wind though, it sure made taking photos an interesting challenge.  For this shoot, Laurie and I were fortunate enough to have access to a beautiful beachfront property next to our camping spot.  We hid from the crazy wind in the nooks and crannies of this white palace to get shots of my parrot culottes!      ...

I have been posting nothing but summer swimsuits lately, which is comical considering how dreary it is in Vancouver these days.  This is the final instalment of my swimwear series, and I hope they are getting you pumped for warmer weather, or if you live in a warm climate, they are at least inspiring you to try sewing some swimwear!       A few days ago I shared a sewalong for the Reno Swimsuit top so if you want to see how this top is sewn you can check that out. I made the Closet Case Files Bombshell bikini bottoms...

How can it be the middle of February already?  I think I go through this every year after Valentines day.  Maybe because Easter is the next big holiday it seems like Spring is upon us!  That is hardly the truth when I look out my window, but I have been trying to focus on Spring sewing and wardrobe maintenance.  With me-made-may not too far in the future, I need to fill some holes in my closet ASAP, I'm looking at you Ginger Jeans and Archer Button-up... News So many great patterns were released in the past couple of weeks! Paprika...

Reno Swimsuit Bikini Sewalong by Helen's Closet
Posted by Helen | 15/02/2016 | Sewalong

Hello makers! Today I am hosting a quick sewalong for the Reno Bikini top from Seamwork Magazine.  I was so pleased with my first make of this pattern that I decided to share the steps involved to encourage others to give this pattern a try.  It's a pretty quick make,  so I won't be extending this into a multi-post sewalong. I hope that's alright for you guys, feel free to break up the process where ever you like 🙂  The entire project (printing and taping and cutting included) took me 5 hours. If you haven't already, head over to the Seamwork Magazine site and sign...

Reno Swimsuit Dakota Bikini by Helens Closet Sewing
Posted by Helen | 12/02/2016 | Into My Closet

I am really excited to share this make with you today, it’s the Seamwork Dakota Bikini bottoms and Reno bikini top.  These two patterns were actually the reason I signed up for Seamwork Magazine in the first place. I love the cut of both patterns and could see myself making many versions to mix and match.  I didn’t get around to making them last summer, so this recent trip to Mexico was the perfect opportunity to make these up!  Special thanks again to Laurie Best for taking these beautiful photos in some seriously windy conditions, you rock! If you are unsure about...
