News Waffle Patterns is quickly becoming Queen of the jackets with their latest pattern release, the Utility Jacket.  I love this style and all those pockets!  *swoon* I practically squeal whenever Grainline Studio puts out a new pattern, and their latest is no exception.  The Driftless Cardigan is a perfect layering piece and I am excited to get started on mine.   Makes I mentioned the fabulous lupin jacket from Deer + Doe in last week’s Wednesday Weekly, well, check out this gorgeous version from Paunnet! This Phoebe dress from Scruffy Badger Time fits like a glove! I LOVE this Hardwood...

Wool Sewaholic Hollyburn Skirt by Helen's Closet
Posted by Helen | 14/03/2016 | Into My Closet

I finally got around to making another Hollyburn!  You know when you finish a new project and you say “I am definitely going to make this again”, but then other projects take priority and you don’t get the chance to re-visit it right away? This is almost always the case for me, and it is nice to come back around the Hollyburn because it was the first thing I made for the blog.  For my previous Hollyburn, I made the longest view because I liked the dramatic look.  It rarely gets worn because it is so long, and I have been...

Isn't it awesome when Spring hits and all the new patterns come out?  I try to only buy a select few, but man oh man it is hard to choose these days!  My strategy is to think on a pattern for at least a week before purchasing, that way I can ponder it's place in my wardrobe and what fabrics I might use for it.  If it is perfect for something in the stash then that is a good selling point for me these days, and it seems to be a theme for others as well. At any rate, Spring is the...

Sew DIY Nita Wrap Skirt by Helens Closet
Posted by Helen | 07/03/2016 | Into My Closet

Looking through all of my makes since I started this blog, there is an obviously neglected category and that is skirts.  I have only made two skirts and both were completed last summer (Sewaholic Hollyburn and Gertie's Pencil Skirt), neither of which get a ton of wear I am sad to say.  I really like skirts but I have come to realize while working through the wardrobe architect that I only like wearing certain shapes and lengths *big surprise*, and almost none of my current skirts fit the bill.  I am planning to rectify this situation in the coming months by making skirts...

Welcome to March, folks!  It's the first Wednesday weekly of the month and I am feeling the open arms of Spring in a big way 🙂  Maybe it's the new issue of Seamwork, or the crocuses outside my door but it definitely feels like winter is drawing to a close in my neck of the woods. News Hey June re-released the Lane Raglan shirt with options for a curved hemline, elbow length sleeves, 3/4 length sleeves, and long hemmed sleeves with no band. This is in addition to the hood and thumbhole wristbands that were added last year - now that is a...

Grainline Studio Archer Button Up by Helens Closet
Posted by Helen | 29/02/2016 | Into My Closet

I finally sewed an Archer Button Up!  It’s been in my pattern stash for months and has been getting pushed back in favour of easier or more exciting projects (ooo, shiney!). Not that button ups can’t be exciting too, but I wanted to make my first Archer a very versatile garment I would want to wear regularly, ie: boring basic.  Fortunately, I purchased some slubby tencel denim from Blackbird Fabrics a couple months ago with nothing specific planned for it, and when it arrived it was just begging to be an Archer so I was inspired! 🙂      I...
