It is hard to believe that it has been almost 1 year since the release of the Winslow Culottes last June!  When I first started making this pattern, I had no idea how much my life would change after the release. This pattern opened my eyes to the possibility of seriously pursuing a business related to sewing, my blog, and my passion for creating. I learned SO much in the process of making the Winslow Culottes and through a lot of trial and error, I was able to get the pattern out into the world and share it with you...

Happy Wednesday! I hope your May is full of sunshine and spring flowers! I had a fantastic sewing date with some friends here in town last weekend and it got me thinking - do you sew with friends?  I used to think it would be a real pain to get transport my machine and equipment somewhere, but once you do it, you realize it's not so bad! It is so nice to share my passion for sewing with others and the hum of several machines going at once is like music to my ears. If you can, try sewing with...

Ahhh, Spring!  How wonderful it is to be surrounded by pretty flowers and the sunshine once again! You would think we would get used to the feeling of changing seasons, yet somehow it feels new and exciting every time.  Vancouver has loads of cherry trees that always mark the start of the season and cover the whole city in fluffy pink clouds. This week’s project was inspired by these lovely flowers and is just the thing to celebrate the warmer weather. This is the Collins Top, the latest pattern from In The Folds. I love Emily’s design aesthetic, she always...

Welcome to May, makers! I am bringing all my me-mades to the front of my closet so I can see all my options in the morning. Like most sewists, I have items that do not get worn very often and this exercise is good for determining if they should stay.  Not everything you make will be a success, and it can be hard to part with items that you laboured over. The reward for that effort is a better understanding of your style preferences and, of course, increased sewing skills! This month, try to wear your me-mades, but also try...

Alder Shirtdress
Posted by Helen | 01/05/2017 | Into My Closet

Are you participating in the #sewtogetherforsummer challenge? We are all making shirtdresses to wear during the warm summer months. You can use any shirtdress pattern and any fabric - check out the contest details here. I love shirtdresses and my favorite TNT shirtdress pattern is the Alder Shirtdress from Grainline Studio. I have made the ruffle bottomed version twice before with different results from two different fabrics. The red version below is made from a super soft and floaty rayon print, while the octopus version on the right is made from a crisp cotton lawn.   This time, I wanted...

Are you guys ready for Spring and Summer!? I have been thinking a lot about what I want to sew this season and I have to admit, I'm still in the overwhelmed by options and inspiration phase. You know, when you are seriously considering making 20 things in three months?  It's an exciting time, but let's be honest, eventually, we need to narrow it down a bit. I've broken down my inspiration into several sections, and I hope to make one or two things from each area so I can have a bit of everything! I hope you enjoy these inspiration pics, you...
