Knit Southport Dress
Posted by Helen | 03/07/2017 | Into My Closet

Stop the presses. I've made the ultimate summer dress and you can too! This is a hack I've had in mind for a while and I'm kicking myself for not trying it sooner. It really is the most comfortable thing EVER and it was so easy to whip up.  All you need is the True Bias Southport dress pattern, some knit fabric and some elastic. I chose to use this fantastic abstract brushstroke print from Blackbird Fabrics for this dress. I knew it would drape beautifully and the large print is perfect for this kind of project. I cut the same...

Happy Wednesday, makers! I have had such a productive week working on a super special collaboration with Caroline from Blackbird Fabrics! More details to come and we are so excited to share more with you in the next month. I have also been enjoying the summer weather immensely and focusing on making come easy summer dresses to beat the heat! My Helga Playsuit is a new favourite and I've got several Southport Dresses planned. What are you sewing these days? News (clockwise from top left) Lillestoff released a free pattern, the Lycka dress. It’s a German pattern, but it is straightforward...

Helga Playsuit
Posted by Helen | 26/06/2017 | Into My Closet

This was a total spur-of-the-moment project for me. I was actually procrastinating doing real work and let's be honest, I'm not even sorry about it. This cute little jumpsuit is my new favourite summer outfit and I can't wait to tell you all about it! This is the Named Helga Playsuit from the playground collection. I loved the sample they showed and knew I wanted to give it a go, but I was waiting for more versions to pop up so I could get a sense for the fit.  Eventually, I just decided to dive in and give it a go,...

Happy Wednesday!  I'm stoked to be back home from our little holiday to Toronto and Ottawa! We had a great time and I'm feeling so refreshed and I am itching to sew something. Right now I'm obsessing over the new Charlie Caftan - I think this could be my perfect summer dress! Apologies for skipping the Wednesday Weekly last week, I decided to take a real break and not do any blog-related things (other than the posts I had lined up already). As a result, this Weekly is HUGE! There were so many awesome releases, I couldn't leave any out. News...

Chalk and Notch Farrah Top
Posted by Helen | 19/06/2017 | Into My Closet

Not too long ago I connected with Gabriela from Chalk and Notch about her foray into women’s pattern making and we had a great chat about the indie sewing world. I love how amazingly open designers and sewists in this community are and how ready and willing others are to share and support one another. She mentioned she was planning a summer tour for her latest pattern, the Farrah top and dress, and I was keen to join in! I am the first in an awesome line-up of bloggers who will be sharing their Farrah’s this week! This tour is...

By Hand London Flora Dress
Posted by Helen | 12/06/2017 | Into My Closet

Dresses are so exciting to sew, aren't they? Is it because it means making an entire outfit?  Is it the oodles of fabric you have swishing around you when you’re done? Perhaps it’s all the pretty prints that somehow seem ill-fitted for separates, but work perfectly for a dress? It’s a combination of all of these things for me, and despite the fact that I don’t wear dresses more than once a week, if that, I still love to sew them. This week I want to show you a wearable muslin I made of the By Hand London Flora dress....
