I had the pleasure of pattern testing the Nita Wrap Skirt for Beth from Sew DIY a while back, and I love my test version.  I wear it all the time because it is easy to put on (yupp, that actually factors in some mornings, #lazybones), and I love the a-line shape.  When I gave pattern feedback, I said I was unsure if I would ever make the maxi skirt variation because I didn’t think it was ‘me’.  I stand corrected!  I decided to go out of my comfort zone and I am very pleased with the results.

This Nita wrap skirt is made from up-cycled material from an Our Social Fabric sale.  I got 7 meters of it for $2, and it is the most lovely cotton with woven black stripes that look as though they were embroidered.

When you have 7 meters of a fabric, you can afford to experiment, which is why I love the Our Social Fabric sales so much!  Knowing that I am not wasting money on trying something that may not work for me makes it much easier to dive in.  I also knew I could always shorten the skirt if I had second thoughts.

The Nita wrap skirt has three options for closures, the variation I chose is the view C, the tie closure.  On the other side of the wrap there is a snap closure.  When I’m walking this skirt has amazing drama, and not the indecent kind if that is what you are thinking.  The pattern drafting eliminates any risk of exposure, it just shows one leg at a time if you are really booking it, but for the most part it stays nice and flat in front (with this heavier fabric at least).

Do you like the maxi skirt variation of this design?  It doesn’t extend all the way to the ground, which is great for showing off sandals!

Final Stats

Pattern: Nita Wrap Skirt by Sew DIY

Fabric: Cotton from Our Social Fabric

Sewing Time: 2 hours

Alterations: None

Notes for next time:  I could see a version of this with the angle of the front panels increased, so there is more of a gap at the bottom, like this.

Oh oui, the longer version is absolutely flattering. And this cotton is gorgeous. Can’t believe the price you paid for it. I wish we had a Social Fabric group in Montréal too!

I felt exactly the same about the maxi version – although I wear midi lengths a lot, I didn’t think maxi would feel very ‘me’ – so it’s so great to see that making it has changed your mind! It looks amazing, and I’m seriously considering trying it out for myself! Now if only I can come across a total fabric bargain like you did!
Great skirt 🙂 x

I am so glad you gave this version a shot because it looks amazing on you!! That fabric is beautiful too – hooray for social fabric sales!

They are seriously awesome, you should come down to Vancouver for one some time! 🙂
